Hard Times.

No one feels the hard times more than publishers of religious Papers and Books, and the managers of Missions. Our General Conference Fund is now lower than for several years. And our Book and Mission Funds are nearly exhausted. We have been publishing largely in several languages, and helping Missionaries of several different tongues. And the point is reached when our Ministers, of whatever nationality, and all our helpers, must call to their aid economy, or the cause will be greatly cramped.
We have never been able to harmonize the words of Christ touching the manner in which his servants were to go out to preach the gospel, with the manner in which some of our preachers run up expenses at hotels and boarding houses. As our work rapidly extends, the cause cannot stand up under such a course these hard times.
JAMES WHITE, Pres. Gen. Conf.
