Give up Tobacco?

Give up tobacco? Yes, I will! There's man enough left of me still, To break away from its vile use, With it I'll hold no word of truce.
Give up tobacco? noxious weed, How strange for it I had such greed, To yield to my perverted taste, And daily lay my system waste.
Give up tobacco? why not now? No longer at its shrine I'll bow; No longer be its conscious slave; What's left of me, I'll try to save.
Give up tobacco? poisonous weed, For it I have no longer need; My palsied arm and shattered nerves, Too plainly show what I have served.
Give up tobacco? dwarfed am I By the vile weed,—until I die, Its poisonous power will still enthrall My life and being, and my all.
Give up tobacco? filthy weed, Upon it scarce the beasts will feed, They know too well its deadly power, But man accepts it—precious dower.
Give up tobacco? yes, I will, Till this poor heart lies quiet, still Will raise my warning voice on high, Against tobacco, till I die.
