Meeting Life’s Troubles

It is well enough that in the conflicts of life we get a sharp and stinging knock occasionally. There is no cure for imaginary griefs so good as a smart box on the ear. There is no exorcism so good as real difficulties, for banishing gloomy ghosts. The warrior is proud of his scars, because they show that he did not weakly lie down or run away—that he met trials and dangers in a manful way. If there are troubles ahead, real or imaginary, then “up and at them.” For the most part, they are like goblins in the twilight, and vanish as we approach.
