War Orders Bring Labor Shortage

The orders for war materials in the manufacturing centers of the East are so many and so urgent that, to quote a leading financial authority, “by October 1, iron and steel manufacturers say, there will be a labor famine in this country.” “One manufacturer said he believed that premiums would have to be offered to get sufficient men to operate the mills which are starting up.”
