The Tornado

MARCH 29 a tornado visited California in the neighborhood of Chico. The dispatch says that the twisting storm covered a path about two city blocks wide, and played havoc with property. No lives are reported to have been lost.
Men used to tell us that the tornado was confined to the Western plains,—Kansas, Nebraska, etc. We were assured that these storms could never visit California, nor would we ever see them in the Eastern states or in Europe. These theories are crumbling beneath the facts. A tornado visited northern California last year, doing more or less damage. They have visited this state in previous years.
Storms will become more and more frequent. They will occur in unheard-of places. The Master, in speaking of these times, assures us that men's hearts will be failing them for fear while they are looking after the things that are coming upon the earth. If these things terrify us, it is because we do not know the haven of rest that is provided, and the assurances and experiences of the blessed gospel of Christ.
We should know that these things are coming. We should know what they mean. We should learn of the rest and security that God has provided against them.
