VALUE OF MIND TRAINING

OBSERVATION confirms the idea that to repeat a mental effort at the same hour each day for a stated time, enters one upon the same practice without premeditation, as the proper period approaches for its performance.
As a common instance, the habit well formed of winding one’s watch at a given hour serves to fix that hour in mind as the time for repeating the operation, with scarcely a breach of program. This is because the mechanism of the brain is such that every mental process acts upon the cells in a way to make them act automatically in the repetition of certain lines of thought. In this course, indelible impressions are made, which remain to the latest days of one’s life.
Thus thoughts passing through the brain leave a faithful record of an entire past life, over which one holds scarcely any control. The constant aim should therefore be, so to train the mind that it will ever give friendly help in spiritual lines, rather than to make it an enemy which must be continually resisted. J. O. C.
