More Deadly than Submarines

IN a recent speech at Bangor, Lloyd-George, chancellor of the British exchequer, affirmed that the strike difficulty they were having in the armament works was mostly due to strong drink, “which,” he said, “is doing more damage than all the German submarines put together.” He said it was the intention of his government to use its great power to deal radically with the drink question.
From every conceivable quarter it is shown more and more clearly that strong drink is an evil with no redeeming quality of any kind whatever. It creates misery, it leads men and women farther and farther into sin, and the end of the journey is ultimate destruction.
