Proposal for Year-Round Wages

In one of the national conferences on unemployment that was recently held, the suggestion was made by one individual of some prominence that “employers be compelled to pay employees wages all the year round whether at work or not.” Such statements would hardly be worthy of passing note were it not for the fact that fanciful ideas of this character are becoming more and more pronounced in the social world of to-day. They show somewhat of the unreasonable things that will be advocated as the contest between capital and labor increases.
