White Slave Traffic in Egypt

ACCORDING to the official report of Lord Kitchener, 843 girls of minor age were met on disembarkation at Alexandria during the year 1913, and handed over to religious authorities or to homes, or to the care of relatives or friends. Of these, 113 were Europeans, 684 Christian or Israelite Ottoman subjects, and forty-six Turkish Moslems. Ninety-five others have been rescued from vice and consigned to the charge of various philanthropic institutions. Seventy-four traffickers were denounced to the authorities during the year, and fifty-two of these were deported—a decided improvement on 1912, when out of eighty-one traffickers denounced, only twenty-one were expelled from the country. More stringent measures are taken against traffickers, and such exemplary punishment is having a great effect on other traffickers. W. C. ISING.
