A young man in New York City a few days ago deliberately shot a young girl who was standing in the entrance of a moving picture house. He said he didn't know why he shot this particular girl, but claimed that he had a dislike for all girls. He confessed that he killed another girl in Missouri thirteen years ago, and in 1907 stabbed and killed a man. About the same time that this was occurring in New York, a fiend was apprehended in Chicago who had killed a woman, and who confessed to the murder of thirteen other victims. These are abnormal cases, it is true. Both of these men were doubtless in some way mentally deranged; but our modern civilization is developing more and more of that class of people. Such conditions are significant. They show that the foundations of society are breaking up.
