An Ancient Account of the Flood

Dr. Langdon, professor of Assyriology at Oxford, has recently translated a very interesting tablet, which was unearthed at Nippur, giving an account of the Flood. The tablet mentions Noah as having been saved from the Flood because of his piety; and while it presents some superstitions about Noah's having been translated to a place among the gods, yet the tablet is useful in that it shows that even just before the days of Abraham, the knowledge of the Flood was commonly held by all people.
