Showers of the Latter Rain

By Delwin Reas Buckner
What joy that thirsty traveler must feel,— Assailed, his heart, by gusts of sudden fears; And bathed, his eyes, by storms of briny tears,— As he beholds for days a sky of steel, Then all at once forgets his pangs of pain, And on the sand in glad thanksgiving kneels, As distant landscape blurs and thunder peals, Announcements of a welcome shower of rain. Like him should we not also fold our hands, And give our God all glory, all the praise, For His repeated mercies time again! Each day good news we have from needy lands That rain abundant of the latter days Is watering the hearts of thirsty men.
