In the Prison of Iniquity

WITHIN Death’s somber valley many lie, The many who are stubborn, who rebel, Who rather choose to heed the prince of hell Than harken to the words of Him Most High; Held firmly by great chains of iron are they— Strong fetters of the gloomy, dismal Night— Within a prison-house, devoid of light, Where shameful, bold Iniquity bears sway!
Before the Flood, with man God’s Spirit plead, And in our later day it pleadeth still; It cometh to our heart to counsel, warn, And to prepare us for the day of dread; Its testimony with a ready will A few will heed—but more by far will scorn.
