The Papacy’s Interest in the United States

Cardinal O’Connell, of Boston, has recently visited the pope, and he says that in his conversation with him he had a very intimate knowledge of conditions in the United States. He also displayed great interest in the welfare of the American government. We are assured quite frequently that the Papacy has a watchful eye on this country, and that she is doing everything within her power to increase her hold here. These facts should be kept in mind, and should be placed alongside prophecies which unmistakably forecast the restoration of the Papacy in the Old World and the formation of an image to that power in the New.
