Our lessons in Exodus cover the experience of Moses in the delivery of the children of Israel. It carries us from the time that Moses first demanded that the children of Israel might go to worship God in the wilderness, to the time when they sang the song of triumph on the other side of the Red Sea. Reading the lesson with the whole subject in mind, we can see how considerate and kind God was to Pharaoh. Had Pharaoh yielded to the first request that God's people might go and hold a feast to Him in the wilderness, that would have been the opening of his own heart to receive other truth which might have followed. Step after step God dealt with him, in kindness at first, afterward showing by the mighty miracles which were wrought that the gods of Egypt were all nothing before Him; and yet Pharaoh hardens his heart against all things, until the Spirit of God leaves him, and his host is devoted to destruction.
Psalms 13, 14, and 15 present excellent thoughts for our Sabbath reading, more especially Psalm 15, with its picture of the character that God regards, characters that shall dwell in His holy hill.
