Better than No Obedience

If we can not obey God cheerfully and willingly, it is better to obey Him anyway than to continue to disobey His commands. Miss Slattery at Northfield told of seeing a little girl making mud pies in the street and hearing her mother calling to her to take a nap. The child replied, “I don’t want a nap; I want to make pies.” Several times more the mother called, until finally the child left her play, unwillingly, but slowly walking toward her mother, and said, “I ain’t comin’; I ain’t comin’.” Miss Slattery smiled at the mother in the window, who said, “I can wait patiently as long as she comes toward me.” So God deals with His children, lovingly and patiently, even tho in our hearts we may say, “I’m not coming, Lord,” but all the time obeying, even unwillingly.—Mary E. Watson.
