Rules for Shopgirls’ Dress

A report from London says that shopkeepers have at last selected a set of rules for girls in their employ. They have been working on this for some time, hoping that the initial steps might come from the girls themselves. This, however, has been agreed upon: All blouses must close to the throat, and must not have any lace on the throat front. No large bows are to be worn on shoes, and no open-work hose must be worn. Girls must wear dark coats, and skirts of serge. No tightness will be allowed in skirts, and no display of the ankles. Modesty is demanded, and a breach of these rules means dismissal.
