THE great nations combined during the nineteenth century and suppressed the slave trade along all the coasts of Africa and Arabia. Is it too much to ask that in the twentieth century they shall combine to prevent the sale of spirits to the less favoured nations and the backward peoples of the Near East, protecting them against the dreadful horrors which have already shown their effects?—Rev.
