Tradition and the Sabbath

Dr. Emil G. Hirsch, the noted rabbi, is reported as saying that the day for religious observance and rest is not essential; that there is really no such thing as an absolute day. And that opinion grows out of the same principle which has set aside the Sabbath of the Lord in the Christian church; namely, that tradition is above the Word. The Jew has placed tradition above the Word; so has the Roman Catholic. Many Protestants have followed the same path. Some religious questions which are troubling the world, would be settled very quickly if men were content to take God's Word as it is given.
