Magnetic Storm

In connection with a rain-storm spreading from East to West in the United States, were very serious magnetic troubles which placed telegraph wires, telephones, and even the Atlantic cables out of commission for hours at a time. The best electricians in the country, like Edison, could give no explanation of it whatever. The veteran electrician could only say, “I wish I knew, I wish I knew.” Some occurrences like that, wholly unforeseen, emphasize the great fact so hard for humans to believe, that man knows very little, and that the very best he can do, and the greatest of all his inventions and works, are powerless before the mighty forces of the universe.
