Suggestive Notes

Our lessons in the Old Testament begin with Jeremiah 40 and close with the second chapter of Lamentations. Very instructive are these closing chapters of the weeping prophet, covering as they do some exceedingly interesting personal experiences of Jeremiah himself and of his going into Egypt. He prophesies concerning Egypt, Moab, Ammon, Edom, Damascus, Elam, all of which powers were to fall before the mighty conqueror Nebuchadnezzar. But there are also prophecies concerning Babylon and the doom of Babylon.
The book of Lamentations is supposed to have been written by Jeremiah, altho others think it was written later. It commemorates in sad song the awful sufferings which came to the apostate people of God, the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
Our New Testament readings include Hebrews 4 to the 18th verse of the 10th chapter. They are filled with splendid instruction concerning our High Priest, His Melchizedek priesthood, the wonderful encouragement that God gives to His children, and the certain fate of those who reject the means by which He saves men.
