What the Word Says

1. The Son of God once came as Jesus the anointed of Jehovah, a Teacher, an Example, a Sacrifice for man.
“That holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called THE SON OF GOD.” Luke 1:35.
“But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, . . . out of thee shall HE COME FORTH unto Me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, FROM THE DAYS OF ETERNITY.” Micah 5:2, margin.
2. His first coming demands a second coming.
“So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for Him shall He appear the SECOND TIME without sin unto salvation.” Heb. 9:28.
3. As His first coming was literal and personal, so shall His second coming be.
“While they beheld, He was taken up; and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? THIS SAME JESUS, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall SO COME IN LIKE MANNER as ye HAVE SEEN HIM GO INTO HEAVEN.” Acts 1:9-11.
4. All will see Him when He comes.
“Behold, He cometh with clouds; and EVERY EYE SHALL SEE HIM.” Rev. 1:7.
“And then shall THEY SEE THE SON OF MAN coming in a cloud with power and great glory.” Luke 21:27.
5. It will not be a coming in stillness and quiet, but in power, in pomp, in glory.
“For the LORD HIMSELF shall descend from heaven with a SHOUT, with the VOICE of the ARCHANGEL, and with the TRUMP OF GOD.” 1 Thess. 4:16.
6. He will come in overpowering glory.
“For the Son of Man shall come in the GLORY OF HIS FATHER with His angels.” Matt. 16:27.
7. At His coming, those who have rejected Him shall perish.
“And then shall THAT WICKED be revealed, whom THE LORD SHALL CONSUME with the Spirit of His mouth, and SHALL DESTROY WITH THE BRIGHTNESS OF HIS COMING.” 2 Thess. 2:8.
“As wax melteth before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God.” Ps. 68:2.
8. The righteous dead will be raised to life when He comes.
“For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout; . . . and the DEAD IN CHRIST SHALL RISE first.” 1 Thess. 4:16.
“We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump; for the trumpet shall sound, and the DEAD SHALL BE RAISED INCORRUPTIBLE, and we shall be changed.” 1 Cor. 15:51, 52.
9. His people will then enter upon their reward.
“Behold, I COME QUICKLY; and MY REWARD is with Me, to give EVERY MAN according as his work shall be.” Rev. 22:12.
10. Christ will then take His people to the mansions prepared in the city of God.
“Ye believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are MANY MANSIONS: . . . I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I WILL COME AGAIN, and RECEIVE YOU UNTOMYSELF; that where I am, there ye may be also.” John 14:1-3.
11. He will then take His throne and begin His everlasting reign.
“When the Son of Man shall come in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, THEN SHALL HE SIT UPON THE THRONE OF HIS GLORY.” Matt. 25:31.
12. Then will His people share His reign.
“And the KINGDOM AND DOMINION, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to THE PEOPLE OF THE SAINTS OF THE MOST HIGH, whose kingdom is an EVERLASTING KINGDOM, and all dominions shall serve and obey Him.” Dan. 7:27.
13. There will be signs of His coming.
“And THERE SHALL BE SIGNS in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And THEN SHALL THEY SEE THE SON OF MAN COMING in a cloud with power and great glory.” Luke 21:25-27.
14. This coming is the culmination of the blessed hope of the ages.
“Looking for THAT BLESSED HOPE, and the GLORIOUS APPEARING OF THE GREAT GOD AND OUR SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST; who gave Himself for us.” Titus 2:13, 14.
