The Enduring Law

“And He gave unto Moses, . . . . two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.” Ex. 31: 18.
“Verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in nowise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” Matt. 5:18.
God spake His law from Sinai, But man now thinks to pass it by, To choose and form, to please his mind, The faulty creeds of humankind.
Why think to change the simplest jot Of God’s pure law? It changeth not; For e’en the heavens shall reveal That law, and its perfection seal.
God’s law of ten commandments shown, Engraven by His hand on stone, Condemns this dying world of sin Till His eternal right comes in.
Can fire or wind, or water’s rage, Destroy or mar that stony page? The law men neither change nor mock, Safe on its symbol, ’during rock.
Then cease from man whose fleeting breath Betokens that his lot is death! The heavens and earth may pass away, But God’s great law shall stand for aye!
F. J. SMITH.
