The Imperial Defense Conference

“The Imperial Defense Conference” opened in London, July 28. We have not yet heard its conclusions. Its special business will be for the defense of the British Empire at home and abroad. It will doubtless bring into stronger, more sympathetic union Great Britain and her colonies. The events of the past few months have led the English Parliament to vote very freely what the ministry had already decided upon; that is, the adding of four Dreadnoughts to this year’s program, no longer to be “contingent” ships, but absolute. They are all to be laid down immediately and ready for sea without fail by March, 1912.
