Suggestive Notes.

Our morning readings begin with Proverbs 13 and close the book. It will be seen that Solomon did not contribute all these proverbs, but chapters 25 to 29 were copied out of Solomon's writings by men appointed by Hezekiah. Chapter 30 brings in the words of Agur the son of Jakeh. Who he was we do not know. Chapter 31 is composed of proverbs which King Lemuel's mother taught him, presumably when he was a child. Lemuel is supposed to be another name for Solomon. The chapter is a beautiful description of the characteristics of a good woman.
Our New Testament lessons begin with 2 Corinthians 5 and close with the 11th chapter. They are full of practical instruction. They place before us the qualifications of the Christian ministry in a wonderful manner in chapter 6. In the same chapter a mighty appeal is made to God's children to separate themselves from the world. True repentance is graphically portrayed in chapter 7, and the necessity of the grace of liberality in chapters 8 and 9; Paul's longing for the Corinthian church and the sufferings that he passed through are given in chapters 10 and 11.
