Capital and Labor.

—Mr. John Mitchell, vice-president of the American Federation of Labor, in a recent article denounces Mr. John Kirby, president of the National Association of Manufacturers, as the foe of working men and unionism. Mr. Kirby in American Industries for June denies that he is a foe of working men or of unionism in a legitimate sphere; but that he is against “a defiant labor trust machine representing less than five per cent of the wage-earners of the country, every page of whose history is black with the foulest deeds of inhumanity and injustice, from dynamiting and murder to throwing egg-shells filled with acid at dumb brutes because the drivers were not cogs in the wicked machine.” We have not space to reproduce the articles in question, but one can get a better idea of these two Johns by reading on both sides of the controversy.
