Catholic Censorship of School-Books.
The State Board of Education of Louisiana has rejected Meyer’s Ancient, Medieval and Modern History as a text-book to be used in the schools of that state. The reason given by one of the members of the board is, “Unless I mistake, the priests will object to some of the statements.” Naturally they are not very proud of the history of medieval times, for “the Catholic Church wrote her history of that period with a sword dipped in the blood of innocent victims.” But history is a record of facts; because the text-book mentioned gives these facts, it is widely used; only such text-books as teach the truth should be used, even tho truth is set forth in uncomfortably plain terms.
