Preservation of California’s Big Trees

The people of California, and many others, will be glad to know that the Big Trees (Sequoia Gigantea) of the Calaveras and Tuolumne counties are to be permanently preserved as part of a national forest by the action of the Federal Government. There are 93 big trees in the North Grove and 1,380 in the South Grove. Trees under six feet in diameter are not counted. Some of these trees have a diameter of 30 feet. One tree is estimated to contain 118,000 board feet of lumber.
