Opium Importation and Prohibition

One of the subjects in Washington which is causing more or less discussion is the matter of opium. A revenue of a million dollars is, it is said, at stake on the matter of smoking-opium which is imported into this country; a large part of which is used in California. Those who favor prohibition do it on moral grounds; some would permit it for the sake of the revenue, the same as they do whisky selling.
