Men at Auction.

A strange ceremony took place in a church in New York the other day. Thirty-five white men wearing black masks were struck off at auction to the highest bidder. Not a sale of the men, however, as chattels. The pastor of the church stated that the men did not ask for charity; they wanted work to buy food and clothing. They were not hoboes. By the time the auction was over, thirty-five human bargains had been provided with jobs.
