At Last.

By Mrs. L. D. Avery-Suttle.
FAREWELL, old earth, our King hath come at last; Ah, we have watched and waited long for Him, When thy chill skies were bleak and overcast, And our poor, aching eyes were dull and dim. Yes, we have waited when our hearts were sad, And when our tongues were dumb with torturing fears, When grief was ours, the scorner’s heart was glad, And strangers cared not for our falling tears.
But we shall weep no more; for His dear hand Doth wipe away the tear-drops from our eyes; O! sing, my heart, for this is Beulah land,— No serpent lurks within this paradise. For all these things, thank God, are passed away; All hail the dawn of blest eternal day. All hail eternal youth, eternal health; All hail the heirship to eternal wealth!
Gone is my grief; earth’s dull corroding care No more shall vex me in these mansions fair, Nor poverty’s rough hand assail me more, For all is peace upon this vernal shore. Gone are the lines of care upon my brow, Which shines with heaven’s resplendent glory now. Sing hallelujah! all earth’s sorrows past,— He whom we’ve waited for hath come AT LAST.
