Greater Dignity to the Catholic Church in Porto Rico
Greater dignity to the Catholic Church in Porto Rico is reported in the Catholic Mirror. It says “the diocese of San Juan, in Porto Rico, is to be created an archdiocese, and that two new dioceses are to be created on that island; one at Ponce, and the other at Mayaguez. This report is attributed to his excellency Mgr. Chappelle, delegate apostolic to Cuba and Porto Rico.” The same paper also says that the religious orders of the Catholic Church in this country include 8,000 men and 50,000 women. This does not include many societies not strictly religious in character, but as devotedly Roman Catholic as the most religious order among them.
