THE TENDER SHEPHERD.

LITTLE one, the way is hard and very weary, Filled with many a ragged rock and cruel thorn, And the tender feet that strove to pass amidst them Are already by their presence bruised and torn.
I will take you in my arms and bear you safely Over rocky waste and guard until the last, Through the unforeseen, but ever present perils, Till the last, long, cruel distances are past.
Little one, the days are long and very dreary, Fraught with dangers which you scarcely now can see. I will take your heart and bear it safely through them, Pure and spotless, if you trust it now to Me.
Over unapparent, ever-present, perils, And the region of their consequences vast, Through the darkness and the dread until together We have come unto the Father's home at last.
Berkeley, Cal. MAIDIE E. BARNITZ.
