An Invisible Microbe.

—Miss Sarah M. Severance, one of the editors of the Pacific Ensign, thus pointedly touches the microbe question:—
Could it be believed that alcoholism, tobaccoism, etc., etc., are the work of microbes, bacilli, or bacteria, how our boards of health would pounce upon them! ‘Personal liberty’ would be forgotten, rum-colored flags would float around the drinker, blue about the smoker, and science would rally for general protection. Alas! when a microbe weighs 175 pounds and carries a license, our boards of health can’t see it.
