Arkansas Again.

Three of our brethren at Batesville, Ark., were recently arrested for doing a little honest business on Sunday. One was acquitted, and the other two were fined $25 and costs. The judge was willing to recommend a pardon, thus expressing his opinion of the prosecution. The prosecuting attorney would also agree to the pardon, provided they would pay the costs. The offense consisted in selling fruit. The judge told one of them that he could work on the farm all he wanted to. That was the provision of the first Sunday law on record—the decree of Constantine, A. D. 321, which applied only to the towns people. Brother D. F. Husbrook, one of the victims, says the people generally deem the law an unjust one; but of course some ministers and very “religious” people favor the prosecution.
