Allahabad Offers Rewards for Live Rats

The city officials of Allahabad, India, in taking precautions against the spread of the plague, undertook to exterminate the rats, which are known to carry the infection. The people would not allow this, as it involved the taking of life. So the city authorities are offering rewards for live rats, and these are to be fed and housed at the public expense until the plague subsides, when the rats will be turned loose again.
