Earthquakes

Earthquakes.— A number of sharp earthquake shocks have been experienced during the week in various parts of the world. Two shocks were felt in the mountainous regions of Montana, on March 15, of sufficient violence to throw dishes from shelves, crack mantels, and cause the people to rush from their dwellings in fear of their collapse. Two days previous two sharp shocks swept over western Washington, rocking buildings and throwing down dishes, but without doing any considerable damage. Vesuvius is again active, throwing up ashes and explosive incandescent globes. Various other seismic manifestations have been reported, but in all of these the damage has been slight.
