The Canteen Again.

It has been matter of common knowledge for the past year that the liquor interests of this country were preparing their case against the anti-canteen law, and that in this effort they were being energetically seconded by a large and influential element in the army. Reports from military posts had been filed with that object in view, and congressmen had been importuned to repeal the law. One bill already has been introduced in Congress for the restoration of the canteen. But on January 15 the House Committee on Military Affairs, by resolution, decided to take no action at this session on the canteen question. There is no promise given, however, that they will not do so at the following session. In the meantime temperance workers may relax in their efforts to keep the canteen out of the army, and it is certain that the liquor interests will increase theirs to put it there.
