Jalisco Abolishes Bull and Cockfights

The Congress of the State of Jalisco, Mexico, at the suggestion of the governor, has made a law abolishing both bull fights and cock fights in that State. In the past bull fights have been a prominent feature in the social life of the people, but the better element are said to realize that these exhibitions of brutality are bringing upon them the contempt of other people. If the report is authentic, as it seems to be, the law-makers of Jalisco have performed a praiseworthy act.
