French Government Enforces Law on Religious Orders

The French Government has again announced its determination to brook no evasion of the law dealing with the religious orders. The premier declared on July 5 that the government had decided to carry out the spirit of the French Revolution, being “firmly resolved to assure the supremacy of civil society over monastic obedience.”
