THE DAY OF THE LORD.

The One Thousand Years.

1. What is the characteristic of “the day of the Lord?”
“A day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness.” See Zeph. 1:14-18; Isa. 13:6-13; Amos 5:18-20.
2. What will mark its beginning?
A decree closing probation. Rev. 22:11, 12; Zeph. 2:1-3.
3. What will precede His coming?
A great threefold, world-wide warning message. See Rev. 14:6-14; Joel 2:1; 3:9-16.
4. How will it come to the unrepentant, incorrigible sinner?
“As a thief in the night.” 2 Peter 3:10; 1 Thess. 5:2-4.
5. What events will immediately follow?
(a) The pouring out of the seven last plagues (Revelation 15, 16); (b) The protection and preservation of God’s people (Ps. 91:4-12; Dan. 12:1; Ps. 46:1-3); (c) The death of all the wicked (Jer. 25:33; Rev. 19:17, 18; 18:8; 2 Thess. 2:8, 9); (d) The raising of the righteous dead, and changing to immortality the righteous living (1 Thess. 4:13-18; Rev. 20:6; 1 Cor. 15:51-53; Phil. 3:20, 21); (e) The glorified saints will be taken to heaven (1 Thess. 4:15-17; John 13:33, 36; 14:1-3; Rev. 15:2-4; 14:1-5; 19:1, 2); (f) This destruction of the wicked, translation of the saints, and the desolation of the earth will take place at the coming of Christ (2 Thess. 2:8; Jer. 4:23-27; Isa. 24:1, 3; 13:9); (g) The everlasting kingdom of Christ will begin at His coming and return to heaven, in the capital of the new earth, the New Jerusalem (see 2 Tim. 4:1; Luke 19:12; Matt. 25:31; Gal. 4:26; Isa. 54:1-5).
6. What takes place during the millennium?
Satan and his angels will be confined to this desolated earth, and Jesus and the saints will reign in heaven. Rev. 20:1-4. At this time the saints will judge the world. 1 Cor. 6:2; 4:5.
7. What are the important events after the one thousand years?
(a) The Lord and His people descend from heaven; a great plain will be made and purified by the touch of Christ; and here will be the camp of the saints (Zech. 14:4, 5); (b) The wicked dead are raised; they are deceived and marshaled by Satan into a vast army, and go forth to take the camp of the saints and beloved city (Rev. 20:5, 7-9); (c) The overpowering glory of Christ’s presence finally falls upon the wicked and all things upon earth identified with sin, converting the earth into a vast lake of fire, which forever purges the earth of sin (Rev. 20:11-15; Isa. 30:27-33); (d) The power of God renews, regenerates, re-creates the earth. His glory fills the universe, and there is no more curse (Isa. 33:24; 35:10; 60:18-22; Rev. 21:9-27; 22:1-7).
