Divorce and Marriage

Divorces in little Rhode Island now number about 4,000 more annually, or about 1 to 8.2 marriages; in Massachusetts the ratio is about 1 to 20; in Oklahoma, 1 to 11; in Michigan, 1 to 9.6; in Indiana last year 1 to 5.7. Surely this is a bad showing, and does not argue well for an earthly millennium. One of the most sacred things of earth should be the marriage relation. Around it cluster all the purest and truest joys of home. The frequent and common divorce cases, connecting in some way with almost every family, are rapidly taking from mind and heart all sense of the sacredness of marriage vows, and the integrity and holiness of the home. Parentage grows more and more uncertain in the minds of children, and home ties become a form and a farce.
