Rome's Prohibition of Scripture
The Roman Church claims Scripture authority, directly or indirectly, for many of her dogmas, but the Scripture must be interpreted by the clergy. Yet Rome admits that the reading of Scriptures in their own light will make Protestants. For this reason she forbids the common people to study the Scriptures for themselves. This fact has been made prominent in Austria of late. The ranks of the papal adherents have been suffering quite a depletion, and one of the remedies proposed by the bishops is the prohibition of the circulation of the Scriptures. Apostasy from true religion always comes of departure from the Word of God, and every true revival comes of a return to it. God would have His people "shine as lights in the world, holding forth the Word of life."
