DeWet Escapes Kitchener’s Trap

LORD KITCHENER'S great plan for the capture of General DeWet, in which a large number of his troops were engaged, has resulted in failure. On February 5 the Boer general, finding that his forces were being surrounded, ordered his men to disperse and seek safety as best they could, while with a large band of cattle he and his immediate followers stampeded the British line, and escaped. In the encounter the Boers lost 283 men in killed, wounded, and prisoners, but the principal part of the command made good their escape.
