Earthquake in Chilpancingo

CHILPANCINGO, the capital of the State of Guerrero, Mexico, experienced a severe earthquake on January 16, which threw down many of the buildings, and caused considerable loss of life. The following day another shock occurred, which threw down a number of the buildings left standing by the previous one. The severity of the shock caused great fissures to open in the streets. The greatest loss of life was in a Catholic Church.
