LIFE ONLY IN CHRIST

OR
Immortality Not a Birth-right, but a Gift from God
Such is the title of a book recently issued from the press. ELD. WOLCOTT H. LITTLEJOHN, of Hume, Michigan, is the author and publisher.
Conditional immortality is the key-note of the work. The author argues that the doctrine of unending misery for the lost is largely responsible for the infidelity of the age. The corner-stone of that doctrine is, he insists, the theory that the soul is naturally immortal and indestructible. That theory he boldly challenges as irrational and unscriptural. The following points will give an idea of the Gospel scheme, as he reads it, in the books of Nature and of God:— 1. Adam was made mortal, with the possibility, if faithful, of winning immortality. 2. Adam sinned and failed of the desired goal, thus subjecting himself and the race to hopeless death. 3. At that point Christ became a mediator between God and man, and the pardon of sin and the gift of eternal life are now freely offered to all who accept Him as their Saviour. 4. Ere long Christ will come a second time in judgment. 5. At the time of His coming the righteous dead and the living saints will be immortalized. 6. One thousand years later the incorrigibly wicked will be raised, punished according to their deserts, and then remanded to death. 7. At that point of time the present earth, having been purified by fire and beautified by the hand of God, will become the eternal abode of the saints, who will never again experience sorrow or be subject to sin or death.
Chapter thirteen of the book is devoted to a discussion of the phenomenon of Modern Spiritism. The writer takes the ground that this new religion is the last great masterpiece of Satan’s delusions, and that it is destined, sooner or later, to deceive the whole world by the prodigies which it will enact.
