“LOVE NOT THE WORLD.”

“Love not the world,” it is passing away; Love not its pleasures, they last but to-day; Love not its riches, they take wings and fly; Love not its honors, they wither and die; Love not its loves, they will inconstant prove; Love not its friendships, they fly like the dove; Love not its fashions, they lead you astray: “Love not the world,” it is passing away.
Love not its nations, they fight and they kill; Love not its power, its pomp, its good will; Love not its vain institutions, tho fair; Love not its god, tho “the prince of the air;” Love not its lusts, they enfeeble and kill; Love not its crowns, they are all hollow still; Love not its scepters nor thrones; they decay; “Love not the world,” it is passing away.
Love thou God’s kingdom, His righteousness seek, Be thou like Jesus each day in the week; Seek thou His wisdom, His knowledge, His truth; They will impart to thee vigor and youth. “The life that now is,” “that which is to come,” True friendship and love, true riches and home, They will exalt thee and bless thee for aye. “Love not the world,” it is passing away.
