VENUS

“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament ‘showeth His handiwork.” Ps. 19:1.
BRIGHT, sparkling Venus, morning’s queen, Peered through the blinds, and winged my thought; Till wrapped in wonder and delight, I cried, What hath our God in beauty wrought?
Star after star, sphere upon sphere! Countless ten thousands peopling space! Systems of worlds revolving round, Each in its own appointed place!
Each with its own high destiny, Its ceaseless sweep while ages roll. And whither all these starry worlds? Where has Jehovah fixed their goal?
Around one common center does He wheel their hosts in bright array (Like conquering armies placed on guard), Around the throne of God for aye.
Unnumbered worlds as Venus fair, And peopled, as perhaps is she, Proclaim His praise, as ever on They scale the vast immensity.
If what we see, and love, and know, Delights the senses here and now, What rapture shall the ransomed feel— As round this “great white throne” they bow— O’er sights and sounds that then shall greet Their quickened senses, now no more Clogged by the fleshly bands, so strong That bind us on this nether shore!
Forever learning! Blissful thought! Forever singing as they soar, All hallelujah to the Lamb, The Father, Spirit, evermore.
