What Is Anarchy?—The Catholic Mirror says:—

The Catholic Church, standing ever in every clime and age for law and order, is an opponent of anarchy, just as anarchy is ever most hostile to the church.
Now we do not question the sincerity of the belief of the editor who wrote that or of any other Catholic, yet the truth of the statement may candidly be questioned even by the writer. Anarchy is against law, without a ruler. The only real ruler in the universe is God. He liveth forever. His law is summarily comprehended in the Decalogue. He is unchangeable; so is His law. Yet the Catholic Church presumes to sit in judgment on that law, and thinks to change it. She brings forth that change as proof of her authority. But to assume to change God's law is to strike at the basis of all government. To choose our own customs in preference to God's law is to reject Him as our ruler. What is this but anarchy?
