Leadville Plans to Mine Its Streets

THE city of Leadville, Colorado, is planning to mine all its streets and alleys. A recent decision of the Supreme Court gives the city absolute right, both surface and subterranean, to the streets and alleys of the city, and it is designed to use the proceeds of the mining to pay the expenses of the city government. The report states that the city is in a fair way to pay dividends to its citizens instead of taxing them to pay for the municipal government.
